Gran Turismo 5 Will Never Happen
Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed again, and things are starting to get more than a little absurd. Let’s take a look at the story so far.
Gran Turismo 4 releases in February ’05. The PlayStation 3 launched in November ’06, and Gran Turismo 5 was expected during the launch window. In April ’08, Sony showed people just how big their balls, and their egos, were by releasing the demo for GT5, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, as a full retail release. At this time, the full game was scheduled to release the following year. In June 2010, Sony gave the announcement that Gran Turismo 5 would release November 2010. 4 years after it’s expected release, and these guys still can’t get it out of the door.
This is starting to enter Duke Nukem: Forever territory here. I get it, there are a ton of details involved, and it’s important to get things right, but they have had more than 5 years now to make a racing game. I have nothing but respect for the racing genre, but there is no logical reason things should be taking this long. Microsoft has released 3 of their FORZA Motorsport games since Gran Turismo 4, and they are all of extremely high quality.
I’m not even interested in the Gran Turismo series. I’m just sick of this game showing up on release lists. Get it over with and start working on Gran Turismo 6 so if my grandkids like racing games, they might get to play it before they retire.
